Capitol Hill Luxury Real Estate
Capitol Hill is one of Denver’s foremost neighborhoods that is just 5 minutes from Uptown. Located in the heart of the city, it is bounded by the Broadway, Downing Street, Colfax Avenue, and Seventh Avenue thoroughfares. It is a neighboring community to Cheesman Park and North Capitol Hill.
Capitol Hill History
Capitol Hill was one of the early outskirt developments of a fledgling Denver back in the late 19th Century. For most of its early life, it was the home of city’s most elite and most prestigious families, with their mansions dotting many of the streets. After the Silver Crash of 1893, mansions slowly gave way to apartment blocks as the area become a lot more accessible to the growing middle class. This trend stayed on until after the Second World War, when the middle class left, turning the neighborhood into an area for transients and renters. After the construction of Interstate 70, Capitol Hill’s pedestrian traffic decreased further. Recent years have seen a new wave of gentrification throughout the town, as redevelopment efforts get underway.
Amenities and Famous Landmarks
The community of Capitol Hill is just a short drive away from both the Denver Central Business District and the Denver Capitol. It also has its own share of commercial establishments scattered throughout the area.
- This small record store is located at the corner of 13th and Washington streets. The store can be considered the predecessor of an independent label of the same name, based in Chicago.
- This small building was once the home of ‘Unsinkable’ Molly Brown, one of the survivors of the ill-fated RMS Titanic. It is now preserved as a museum to her life and to the history of Victorian-era Denver.
- The Denver Botanical Gardens is located at York Street in east central Denver. The place is famous for its large collection of different kinds of cold temperate climate plants from all over the world.
- Congress Park is located in Capitol Hill. It is a great place for unwinding activities such as group picnic and exercising. Definitely a great place for an-all around entertainment.
