Lakewood City Luxury Real Estate
Lakewood is the most populous city in Jefferson County, and one of the 200 most populous cities in the entire United States. As of 2010, this home rule municipality has 142,980 residents. Just 16 minutes away from Country Club, Lakewood is one of the major components of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area.
It is located near to Downtown Denver where residents can enjoy a wide range of amenities. There are parks, golf courses, cultural programming and several recreation areas near the city, such as the Lakewood Cultural Center, Bear Creek Lake Park, Lakewood Heritage Center, Foothills Golf Course, and Hayden Park on Green Mountain among others. Within Lakewood you will find the Belmar shopping center. The new shopping area has great outdoor shopping, summer street festivals, a winter ice skating rink and great places to eat. The Light Rail west line runs through Lakewood and 6th Ave offers great transportation into Downtown Denver.
Lakewood started up as a weekend getaway west of Colfax Avenue for many of Denver’s well-off elite, after Colorado Central Railroad president WAH Loveland established a home that he can live in during his advanced years in the area. It eventually became a part of The Loop, a section of the Denver Tramway that serviced Denver, Golden, and Lakewood, in 1893.
Remington would set up an ammunition factory in the town in 1941. It was the biggest government contract for the state at that time.
Lakewood would successfully petition for incorporation more than two decades later, in 1969.
