History
At around 1860, mill operator John Parmalee came to Colorado and made a settlement in Mount Vernon. There he built and operated sawmills and shingle mills. He was later commissioned to build a road which is now known as the Parmalee Gulch.
The area got the interest of George Olinger and in 1921, he bought the properties. Olinger made some parts of the land into a development which was named Indian Hills, and turned the other part of the land into a golf course. In 1923, Indian Hills became the community’s official name under the Jefferson County records.
