Capitol Hill is one of Denver’s foremost neighborhoods that is just 5 minutes from Uptown. Located in the heart of the city, it is bounded by the Broadway, Downing Street, Colfax Avenue, and Seventh Avenue thoroughfares. It is a neighboring community to Cheesman Park and North Capitol Hill.
Capitol Hill was one of the early outskirt developments of a fledgling Denver back in the late 19th Century. For most of its early life, it was the home of city’s most elite and most prestigious families, with their mansions dotting many of the streets. After the Silver Crash of 1893, mansions slowly gave way to apartment blocks as the area become a lot more accessible to the growing middle class. This trend stayed on until after the Second World War, when the middle class left, turning the neighborhood into an area for transients and renters. After the construction of Interstate 70, Capitol Hill’s pedestrian traffic decreased further. Recent years have seen a new wave of gentrification throughout the town, as redevelopment efforts get underway.
The community of Capitol Hill is just a short drive away from both the Denver Central Business District and the Denver Capitol. It also has its own share of commercial establishments scattered throughout the area.
Many of the homes within Capitol Hill are single detached family homes in the modern contemporary style, although some traces of its pre-War heritage remain in the form of preserved mansions that are still open for occupants. Newer developments include condominiums and apartment blocks.
The Capitol Hill community also offers views of the downtown Denver skyline. Searching for that perfect home and location within Capitol Hill can be a challenge. If you want to know more about the area and Denver luxury residences options, please contact Matt at +1 720-260-0180.
